The birds are singing, the leaves are rustling, the rain is falling and the flowers are growing… Keep your hearing healthy and listen to the sounds of spring!
When taking care of ourselves and our loved ones we think about eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and so on… But a lot of us never think about what to do to keep our hearing healthy. The first thing that might come to mind when we talk about “healthy hearing” can be hearing protection. While hearing protection is, in fact, important, it is not the only method we can use to keep our ears in tip-top shape. For example, cardio helps pump blood to your ears and this helps them work their best. Also, some studies say that managing your stress and anxiety levels can help you avoid tinnitus symptoms.
Now that spring is here, what can you do this season to keep your hearing healthy? Grow a garden! As you may already know, the nutrients in plants help prevent cancer and heart-related problems. There are also vegetables that can help your hearing. If you want to protect the delicate tissue in your inner ear eat spinach, broccoli and asparagus. To reduce the chance of hearing loss due to a magnesium deficiency eat artichokes, broccoli and potatoes. For your kids, you can help avoid those sneaky ear infections by adding bell peppers to their food to boost their immune system.
All of the tips mentioned above are just some of the ways you can take care of your hearing. Even without signs of hearing loss you should always get your hearing checked at least once a year to make sure everything is in order. There’s no way to reverse hearing loss but there are plenty of ways to prevent it.
